It was my job to pop a few things in the crockpot - roast beef, onioins, etc. at lunch Thursday so we'd have something to eat.

Instead I forgot and had mexican with my dad...

so we had soup and grilled cheese instead.

But today is Friday and on Friday's we have roast.

One of the best parts of my job is the two weeks I get off at Christmas. I spent the first week being a Martha - getting the house ready: cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, decorating, etc. In this second week I've taken full advantage of enjoying the days where I have nothing to do. Nothing.

We are headed to North Alabama this weekend for a New Year's wedding! I'm wearing this snazzy number -

We decided to send out Christmas cards this year, and to be honest it really hasn't been that bad.

I think our cards are pretty hilarious - although I'm not sure our older relatives will 'get' them, which is fine.

I looked a while back on Etsy for personalized labels...ya'll they were all so precious but just not something I felt like spending money on - so I spent my morning making some and I'm pretty darn proud of how they came out!

Now to buy stamps, finish gathering addresses, Address, stuff & send!

Oh yeah, but we weren't there for the food right? ...

Sadly, it wasn't my sweet (also newly 24 yo) husband who joined me, but 3 really fun girls from the Poultry Dept. We had a great time!

Month in Review

October is finally ending - it's been a long month, folks.
As Jim & I have been adjusting to our new jobs; we've gone through a pretty major adjustment period but the good news is November is the birthday month!(5 birthday between our immediate families, including us!)
Here's what I have been up to -


I was at the Fair for a few days, and these little guys were across the way.

I spent the next week in Indianapolis for my first offical "business trip" at the (wait for it) National FFA Convention. I'll admit, not somewhere I ever picture myself but it's really a very impressive organization.

I cannot appropriately describe the magnitude of this convention - blue jackets EVERYWHERE. You can go here if you're interested. Apart from the annual political conventions - It is the largest annual convention in the country.
Oh yeah, I got to meet Joe Diffie. Wish the photo person had told me about my hair...

I flew back into Atlanta which may have been the best decision of 2011. Catherine and I ate at Souper Jenny's - we split a lunch of soup, sandwich, & cookie and I was stuffed!

After spending a little time(and money) at Atlantic Station - we met Cathy for Tapas


Spanish Cheese Plate - yum!

Then we saw Footloose at Cinebistro aka Fancy Town. I'm not kidding y'all this was the most fancy I've felt since I walked down the aisle. It's a 21+ movie theatre where they serve food, drinks, and each person has a giant leather comfy chair with a swivel tray for your noms during the film. We enjoyed incredible desserts and yummy drinks. Definitely not something I could afford to indulge in every weekend - but incredible nonetheless.

My highest is 101 wpm.

In one test I typed the following, which I found to be particularly inspiring:

-Follow instructions: I almost broke the laminater because I didn't have a 'cardboard sleeve'.
-You do not want to be the one who has to make the whole car stop to use the bathroom. Especially if you're the only female.
-WATER YOUR PLANTS. DON'T FORGET
-Don't eat the candy. You'll never be able to stop.
-Two Words: Chicken. Pumpkins.

Sometimes I feel all gangster for having business cards, A-zone parking(cue hallelujah chorus), etc.
But mostly I'm just so thankful to have a job. And insurance.

Pintrest Project ii. Chevron Canvas

So I've started another Pintrest project - it's not finished yet but I thought if I don't post it now I probably never will!

I started out with a plain canvas left over from my college days in my 'craft box' and some painters tape

I was going for a chevron pattern - and didn't measure anything out(obviously) so it's not perfect.
Next I added my paint

And once dried, peeled away the blue tape

Ta Da! Next time, I'll be a little more precise and measure things out, but for a first go I thought it wasn't too bad...
Chevron is actually my new favorite and probably deserves it's own post soon!

Kitchen Update

We have a new addition to our kitchen - a beautiful island made by Jim's Uncle Bill. Jim has been desperate for more counter space, and we're lucky enough to have plenty of space!

As you can see, there are towel racks on each end, a hole in the top for waste(bowl goes under the hole when cooking), small shelves for cooking sheets and cutting boards, and lockable casters so we can move it around.

Well, I can finally share some incredible news - I have a new job!!!!
A real one - with benefits, insurance, business cards & (drum roll please) an office!!

On September 1st I will begin working in the Poultry Science Department at Auburn University and Jim & I could not be more thrilled!!!

I love working with college students and am so excited about this opportunity - and this coming from the girl who doesn't even know where the chicken 'wing' comes from!

My third and (for now) final PO(li)SH post.

After living together in college(oh wait 3 years ago...), sweet Catherine now makes her home in ATL. As one of the sunniest, most positive, and most genuine people I've ever met, Catherine is yellow. Combine this with the fact that most of her adorable wardrobe is J.Crew and you get Vicksburg Honey - the perfect burnt yellow/mustard.

Laura Sthconyerths is the closest thing I have to a personality twin. We're both wonderfully weird. She now spends her days with her nose in her books/notes/clients (just kidding) in grad school for Thpeech Pathology but will all too soon be moving to Charleston (boo). I had a hard time choosing but I finally decided on: a bottom of the leaf /pistachio(ish) green, S(th)ucculent. (I tried in vain to mesh this with your name but SuccuLaura just isn't marketable. Sorry I'm not sorry)

Finally, Jenn - a displaced Yankee, ex-coffee addict & current running junkie, who is a lover of all things orange - the most of which is her Pomeranian Freddie(whose name I always forget how to spell and had to look up even now). Jenn embodies orange - but that would be too boring SO I am excited to announce the addition of UV color to the PO(li)SH line...light orange inside, slap-your-mama(or your neighbor's cat)-bright-orange when you step outside, Sun Kiss'd.

Emily has one of those, what people call "magnetic personalities" she is legit.She makes me feel like we are in the same (life) boat except she's doin it big in NYC and I'm holding down temp services in AL. Her color is One Thin Dime (reference here.) Color wise we're looking at something edgy, cool but approachable - matte turquoise (the matte is very important, and the 's' in turquoise is also silent, thank you.)

This picture epitomizes my next PO(li)SH friend, Meghan. When I think MeghanCoxJones I often wish for time together in a coffee shop; no one appreciates a good cup of joe better than her(except for maybe her ginger hubs)so naturally I'm thinking coffee colors, but meghan is also the whitest person I've ever met(in more than one sense) so picture khaki bordering on white and that is Meghay Olay.

Emma once told me(though she denies it) that if she had ever opened a restaurant, she would name it Leftovers. She is one of the most enjoyable people to be around - and I'm so glad that we live so close! Emma's color is not for the timid; she's here and she's awesome - orangey red Scampi for Emma!

Cathy is playing grown-up in ATL - and if we're being honest she's always been the most grownup(and best driver) of the bunch. But she's full of surprises. Once in college we drove to ATL to see a show, we were running late b/c of traffic so we had lunch at The Fox. She had popcorn w/ a crown & coke - I had a glass of wine & raisinettes. Cathy's color is 925 Bougie (numerical reference), sterling silver + purple-ish unexpected but not over the top.

A PO(li)SH ode to Friends

I was so inspired by my dreams to become the next famous finger-nail-polish-color-namer that I decided to show you some of my skillz.

I have decided to start close to home and dedicate my first imaginary line of POliSH colors to my friendz.

First up, because it's an obvious one, my friend Liya.

Liya is a social butterfly-diva-sassypants. Or, as our good friend Beyonce likes to say, "Liya is the female version of a hustla." I haven't decided on a specific color but it will be called - Socialight. And it will have sparkles. Classy sparkles.

Ceecee is a small-town-turned-big-city deep thinker and brilliant Catholic extraordinaire. Your color, Hail Mary is a neutral coraly color b/c it is simultaneously fun and grown up. Loved our lunch date!!

Abby, who has recently joined the blogging world, is studying to be the world's funniest and best dressed dentist. Her color was an obvious choice - Pearly White. That is, a white-white with an iridescent shine. Complicated and correct.

Ashley is my current favorite international. I was thinking her color would be 'Ashy' but on second thought I think London Fog is more appropriate. Is light black a color? Because that's what I'm going for here - and I'm not talking gray/grey. Ashley is a budget-ista as in she's looking good on a tight budget - have you ever been to London? #overpriced

I got my nails done last week in preparation/self-reward for a job interview (keep your fingers crossed!)

I walked in, expecting at least a 15 min wait. Instead the waiting chairs were full of workers. Slow day? So I go to the wall of many colors...despite the hundreds of bottles my choice really came down to: bright.bright.bright or a nudey-pink/pinky-nude.

I decided on 'Mimosas for the Mr. & Mrs.' mostly because of the name*

I didn't think I would like it, I mean what's the point getting your nails did, watching 'Cops' on closed caption, listening to classical music over the sound system, and you have no idea what anyone says(except the aforementioned cops) for an hour if no one can even tell you have paint on your nails.

But it grew on me. It was subtle. Ladylike. Fancy. So I bought me something similar. Target was fresh out of 'Mimosas' so I settled for a bottle of Essie polish. It was either:

I love a good hymn and we sang this at church on Sunday.

Something about hymns just feels... nostalgic and cohesive - I love not having to watch the screen for the words, I love that people have been singing it since 1885.

I decided Sunday that I would like this sung at my funeral. A little morbid perhaps, but I won't be there to make sure things go right so I might as well plan a little here and there.

I would ask one of my super talented friends to sing it, but that's a little cruel I think. Also, it's possible I'll outlive them and then I would be up a creek, wouldn't I?

Anyway - Elvis won 2 Grammy's for his version & Carrie Underwood got a lot of attention lately for doing such an amazing job

I've been doing a lot of learning lately. More than I would have liked, really.

But it's time to shake things up, to stop getting comfortable...

I hope you're sitting down for this life-changing revelation.....life is not all about the Codester (that's me).

But I like to think it is. I act like it is.

And when it doesn't go my way, I tend to get upset, frustrated, and grouchy (just ask sweet Jim).

So I'm learning to not put myself first,

Sweet Nothings

So my inner Martha got the best of me - maybe it has something to do with the fact that I have spent the past 4 days at work on pintrest.

Or maybe celebrating 5 months of marriage inspired me.

But I decided I would attempt to make these for my sweet husband

At lunch I checked our cupboards for existing ingredients. I decided I would still need: cookie mix, chocolate chunks, creme de menthe chips, and mint extract.

After work I headed to Kroger where I was able to pick up the mix & chocolate chunks.Good not great.

NExt decided to hit up the new Publix near our house. Nothing I needed. Boo.

I picked Jim up from home and we head to Wal Mart - creme de menthe chips - check!
Still in need of some mint extract we hit one more last place - Winn Dixie.

Nothing.

I was really disappointed, but not surprised - let's be honest the Auburn/Opelika area is not known for their unique grocery selection. So I used what we already had - peppermint extract.

Well with a little too much food coloring and a little too much peppermint this is how they turned out.

Did I mention I managed to break one of our everyday bowls?
BUT - no tears and they were edible, so I'd say(and Jim agrees) it's a win.

Two weekends ago Jim and I tag teamed a beautiful wedding at the lake.
Jim prepared delicious day-of food for the bridesmaids and I coordinated.

It turned out to be an incredibly beautiful event. The bride and her mother had thought of EVERY detail, which made my job pretty easy. We were blessed to be a part of it.

Burlap,Dip-n-dots(Groom's cake), mason jars, and lemonade for arriving guests is just the tip of the iceberg - there are just a few pictures I snapped with my phone.

There were signs leading up to the outdoor chapel - my favorite was the one that contained their scripture (Romans 12: 9-13 NIV)

This does not do the cake justice, it was stunning. And the bouquet probably weight 15 lbs.

Maybe one day we will be able to work together in an event setting more often - JCP Events perhaps?

This has been a very long and difficult week both professionally and personally and I just really haven't felt like blogging.

Auburn University lost two precious lives during the week of Spring Break - one of them was my sorority sister, Jessica.

The Auburn Plainsmen(AU's newspaper) ran a touching article that came out yesterday.

My heart breaks for these families as every day they wake up once again realize their worlds have shifted.

Today in Roswell,GA the short life of Jessica will be celebrated.

I was about to say that I don't wear a lot of green. And then I realized I actually do.

Work has been exceptionally slow this week due to Spring Break. I've been working through my bitterness at no longer having the option to take a week off just for funsies. After a two-week interview process Jim started a new job this week so our aforementioned road trip was canceled.

It's hard for me to continue posts of precious but grossly over-priced clothing because I am living the reality that I will not be able to buy new clothes for a while.

Not even the on clearance ones.

And this is for several reasons -

1. The closet and chest-of-drawers that Jim and I share is maxed out.
2. I do not need any clothes.
3. My money has become our money - and a new dress, however cute, will not feed us, keep us warm, or entertain us. Also, it would not fit Jim.

We are currently saving our money for a new mattress.

So maybe we will have to scratch the mattress until summer.

Well, we're back!

We had a great time, but the traveling was obnoxious and we're content to stay home for a while.

For a long time now I've wanted to try bright red lipstick - something about it is so sophisticated and classic.

Well, when I got my makeups done for the wedding, I decided to go for it.

Smashbox - Legendary is what my makeup artist(?) suggested and I love it ya'll.

I wore it at the wedding(pictures coming soon, hopefully!), on the honeymoon where I realized I needed to invest in a pencil to help control the lips, and now to work(even though 7:45 am is a little early for my reds)

The Wine Bottle Project Update: One of the many good things about having a handy husband - Jim took it upon himself to learn glass cutting; after just one trip to Hobby Lobby he had it all figured out! So we will soon have sets of glasses from our wedding!

So as Jim and I begin this new year we decided to do a few resolutions - something the Plasters(as in Jim's parents) do is make financial, love, and spiritual goals for the year. We followed suit but I won't bore you with them.

My one resolution for the year is to let go of my fears. It is a problem because I(almost) can't be alone at night. I'm convinced someone is breaking in with every creak and groan. I stay up plotting out my best options for hiding places and escape routes.

NO MORE.

I am done being afraid, friends.

The Wine Bottle Project

With a pair of people who love wine as much as Jim and I do, it was pretty appropriate to include wine bottles in our centerpieces.
Well, they were the centerpieces.

But we have 4 boxes of wine bottles and assorted smaller bottles that we, with the help of family members, collected throughout the fall. They are too beautiful not to do something with so we've been thinking...

Happy New Year friends!!

This has honestly been the best, most exciting and most productive year of my 23 thus far.

I got engaged (02.24.10)

I graduated from Auburn University (05.13.10)

I went to Europe for the first time (05.22.10)

Got a job(08.19.10)

Got Married (12.18.10)

I am so thankful that ~~I've~~ We've had the holidays to unpack and get settled before I have to to back to work & Jim starts looking for a job.

We are praying that 2011 keeps our family & friends as healthy, safe, and happy as 2010

We needed a sign to help people find the reception

Our friend, (and my brother's sweet girlfriend) Kimmy, helped us out. I was too scared I would mess it up and she has a steady hand.

I also made us a sign for our getaway car...Jim picked out the paper and I did the letters. I was actually really proud of this because the letters had to be done backwards and I didn't mess up or get frustrated (which is usually what happens...)

Lastly, we needed small notes for a few different things - one for directions to the reception, one to explain the guest gift, and one for the song my sorority sisters sang (no one ever knows the words, which makes it really awkward)

We brainstormed what we wanted to say and then Jim, being the expert knifesman that he is, cut & hole-punched them.

The week leading up to the wedding was a pretty busy one -

Trying to get all of the last minute details worked out, working like crazy on a few reception crafts, table runners, etc.

But with the help of some really sweet friends we knocked everything out in 2 days!

Frames -

I bought 4 frames of varying size at the antique store, we backed them and taped around the inside.

Next we used our handy chalkboard paint to get the insides. This is handy Jim cutting the backing for the largest frame.

And there you go! We got some chalk and then each sign was tagged with:
